Steve Hawkins

Steve was born in 1972. His first five years were spent In the small village of West Knoyle. His family moved to Old Hollow in Mere in 1977 where he grew up attending Mere First School, Dutchy Manor Middle School and then Gillingham School. Steve then worked in a local Little Chef before starting a career in the Highway industry, which he still does to this day. In the late 1990s he moved to Hampshire for a short time before returning to the West Country. He met his wife Sandie in 2000 and settled back in Mere where their two children, Reece and Kayleigh were born and raised.

While photography has always held an interest with Steve it was in 2016 that that interest became an obsession quickly followed by a number of small exhibitions and an image featured in the 12th edition of the Landscape Photographer of the Year. Over time, Steve has realised the power of a body of work, rather than just a stand-alone image and has numerous projects on the go at any one time.

Steve has developed great friendships together with great opportunities through his photography, from volunteering with the Photo|Frome and Wylye Valley Art Trail to being an active Frome Wessex Photographic committee member. He's learnt to value not only the power of photography but the power of all art and the good it can install.
